Committed to health and safety: RSK Safety Fortnight 2023
Published on April 28, 2023Since 2017, RSK has been running an annual Safety Fortnight for its employees. The initiative, organised by the RSK safety council, aims to reduce the number of incidents at work and focuses on stimulating improvements in safety arrangements, behaviour and organisational culture.
Maintaining an unwavering commitment to health and safety is one of RSK’s nine guiding principles, and the group works to ensure that this is upheld across its businesses. While safe working practices are incorporated into all day-to-day functions, it is crucial to dedicate time to improving awareness.
The latest Safety Fortnight took place in January 2023. RSK is delighted to report that this year’s event was the group’s most successful to date, with more than 9900 participants taking part – an impressive 92.4% of RSK employees!
Throughout the month, 199 businesses across the group hosted their own safety day. Employees took part in presentations and exercises on two topics: a mandatory module on effective safety leadership followed by a choice of eight topics relating to this year’s theme, ‘A collective commitment to getting safety right’. The sessions were adjusted to consider the unique needs of each type of role. Some workshops took place remotely, while others were held on-site.
A brilliant 143 businesses reported over 90% attendance, while an incredible 85 business units reported 100% attendance. Overall, 190 business unitsachieved attendance rates of more than 70%, with an overwhelming majority of businesses reporting more than 85% attendance.
Group SHEQ Director, Ross Chattaway, commented: “A huge thank you to everyone who took part. We have found that this year’s event really captured the imagination of our workforce, particularly when it came to challenging perceptions of individual and business safety culture. With well over a hundred new objectives already set by the participating business units, and the few remaining that are expected to follow during the coming week, we look forward to the legacy of this event being the most rewarding to date!”
