Principal Designer and CDM Advisor
Construction work is accompanied by extensive legislation and regulations. The role of principal designer (PD) is defined by and concerned with ensuring legal compliance with the Construction and Design Management Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015). PDs are appointed to undertake the planning and management of health and safety throughout the period of their appointment. Construction design and management advisors (CDMA) support and advise clients across a wider range of relevant health and safety matters, including CDM 2015.
RSK’s dedicated safety and risk team, and subsidiary, Pellings, offer exemplary PD and CDMA services. With more than 20 years’ experience, we work closely with our clients to understand their goals and provide the health and safety expertise required to deliver outcomes. Our knowledgeable team works to support designers and contractors in achieving compliant and effective outcomes, not treating the project as a box-ticking exercise.
Complying with regulations
Our CDM experience pre-dates the first iteration of the regulations in 1994, and we were involved in the original draft of these regulations. This in-depth knowledge and understanding has been maintained to understand current legislation and to prepare for any future changes. To this end, one of the team sits on an advisory panel for reviewing the regulations in 2020 to draft the next iteration.
Safety is paramount, and we ensure compliance with relevant regulations in all our services. As CDMAs, we help clients manage health and safety risks by carrying out a bespoke service comprising site inspections, audits, advice and training deliverables.
Managing concerns
Poor safety culture and a lack of CDM regulatory understanding puts organisations and individuals at risk. RSK provides highly qualified and experienced health and safety consultants and supports clients in managing and mitigating risks, engendering confidence that all relevant regulations and legislation are complied with.
Working collaboratively
A collaborative approach with clients and design teams is essential to achieving a successful project outcome. Thanks to our expertise in CDM 2015, we consistently work in compliance with these regulations and offer training to in-house teams about regulation compliance. We offer PD and CDMA services as part of a wider scope of work, which also includes structural maintenance and repair, building surveying, architecture design and town planning. These services are offered as part of an integrated solution, allowing our clients to dedicate their full attention to other areas of their project, safe in the knowledge that we are providing a comprehensive, high-quality service.
Improved safety
It is imperative that buildings are designed with safe construction and management as a priority. RSK provides pragmatic health and safety consultants that our clients can trust to protect their interests, applying our expertise to follow and advise on all relevant regulations..
