Cost Consultancy and Quantity Surveying

Careful planning and monitoring of finances are vital in the construction industry: without detailed plans, clients risk exceeding their budgets. Cost consultancy and quantity surveying, however, can apply an in-depth knowledge of construction costs and help clients manage budgets effectively and provide robust stewardship of project finances through to successful completion.

RSK and its subsidiaries Pellings, CS2 and Fellows provide consultancy and contracting solutions to clients. With more than 40 years’ experience in consultancy and quantity surveying, we help our clients achieve cost certainty and value for money. We can deliver the complete cost management and quantity surveying expertise required to take projects from development design to completion, supporting a range of procurement strategies and contractual arrangements. We use a range of industry standard tools to help clients manage, mitigate, assign or remove all possible financial and commercial risks, combining outstanding project management skills with a deep understanding of the design and construction processes across all sectors.

Wealth of knowledge

We provide our clients, which range from local authorities and housing providers to government agencies, private developers and funders, with a wide range of services, including procurement advice, value engineering, and bank and funder monitoring. We offer the above services stand alone or combine them with our additional complementary services as part of an integrated single-source solution.

Our knowledgeable team has the skillset to produce a wide variety of pricing documents, including employers requirements, bills of quantity, activity schedules and schedules of work. During design stages, we conduct detailed financial viability studies and cost models, developed with sufficient detail to meet a project’s needs. Once construction is underway, we undertake close financial monitoring and appraisals, including monthly valuations and cash flow reporting with up to final account projections and robust reporting regimes.

Integrated services

RSK encompasses a broad range of services alongside consultancy and quantity surveying to support clients in development projects. Structural engineering, building surveying, remediation and transport planning and management are all offered as part of an integrated service.

Our Expertise

  • Procurement advice

We advise clients on a wide range of delivery solutions using both traditional and collaborative forms of contract. With a comprehensive understanding of the construction market across all sectors, we can assist clients to receive competitive yet well-considered tenders, where drivers are not just selected on lowest cost but also on qualitative value assessments.

  • Value for money reports, forensic cost consultancy and expert witness

As experts in our field, senior consultancy team members are called upon regularly by clients to investigate and report on projects from both commercial and value-for-money perspectives, at various stages of delivery as a forensic service or in respect of contractual claims requiring expert witness support independent of the project delivery team.

  • Value engineering

Our consultancy team regularly acts as a champion for the exploration of value engineering opportunities and uses a range of industry standard and collaborative tools and techniques to ensure value drivers are recognised early in the project. Identified value drivers are managed appropriately so that the development of design solutions and project specifications do not become cost-cutting measures to meet available budgets.

  • Whole life and life cycle costing

Our service extends to cover life-cycle analysis, including non-financial costs such as environmental and carbon costs.

  • Bank/ funder monitoring

Our team is highly experienced in monitoring developments to ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and funder requirements. We ensure all contractual commitments are met to release funds and work regularly on joint ventures between developers and housing associations.

RSK Group company 1stinrail has recently completed extensive track replacement work on the Keadby Drawbridge. 🌉

Project Manager Ryan Hughes said: “This was a fascinating project to be a part of due to the unique design of the drawbridge and the fact that it is one the busiest routes for freight trains in the UK.
