With traditional energy sources in decline and the cost of heating homes continuing to rise, every effort is being made to develop innovative and sustainable natural energy solutions that do not rely on the ever-depleting supply of fossil fuels.

One such solution is ground-source heat pump (GSHP) technology, an effective way of using the natural energy stored in the earth to heat homes: buried collectors extract heat and transfer it seamlessly to a property’s heating system, thereby replacing the need for a boiler.

Ground Heat was established in 2006 and provides a UK-wide design and installation service from its base in Appley Bridge, Lancashire. The company has more 35 years of experience in the heating industry and has been installing heat pumps for over 13 years, which makes it one of the market leaders in the industry.

As a company of heating engineers, we are ideally positioned within the marketplace to integrate into the renewables sector. Our GHSP systems can be used for radiators and for underfloor and pool heating.

Certified to safeguard quality

Investing in new technology can be daunting, but we are here to reassure customers and clients through every step of the process. We are fully accredited with MCS, the Microgeneration Certification Scheme for heat pump and solar photovoltaic technologies, which is acknowledged nationally to safeguard the quality of renewable energy installers. Part of this certification is a statutory annual inspection that ensures that we have the highest standards of installation and customer service.

Ground Heat is also part of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), which is supported by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. This means we must adhere to an agreement to deliver outstanding service.

An end-to-end bespoke design and installation and after-care service

At the outset of a consultation, we calculate a building’s unique energy requirements and determine the architectural constraints and viability of the project. After a site survey, we recommend an appropriate design, which our engineers then install. Our installation work is to the highest standards to ensure high quality. We also follow up on an installation to guarantee that everything is in good working order.

We work closely with several well-known manufacturers of heat pumps that offer seven-year guarantees on their units. We offer a two-year, insurance-backed guarantee on our workmanship through the RECC. After a guarantee expires, we can then offer a low-cost maintenance agreement for an annual service.

  • Ground-source heat pumps

    From initial conception through to installation, Ground Heat manages every phase of the process with expert advice and a hands-on approach. At the beginning, we conduct a consultation to calculate a building’s energy requirements and determine the architectural constraints and viability of the project. Following this, we conduct a site survey of the property and provide detailed recommendations based on the survey results. We can also guide you through both domestic and non-domestic RHI applications. We keep up to date with the latest changes to government policy, which is a minefield of information and often confusing to our customers.

    Finally, our team of proficient engineers will install the heating system to the highest standards. Follow-up tweaking sessions are factored into all our jobs to ensure that clients get the most out of their new installations.

  • Pool heating

    Ground Heat is recognised within the industry as being a market leader in the development of swimming pool heating that utilises heat pumps. Heat pumps are the most efficient, trouble-free way of swimming pool heating. They run on electricity and emit no exhaust fumes. They work by extracting heat from the ground and transferring it to the pool water. Pool heat pumps are so efficient at transferring heat that they operate at a lower cost than natural gas systems.

  • Underfloor heating

    We specialise in the integration of underfloor heating with our heat pump installations and provide a full range of bespoke systems that deliver the correct amount of heat precisely where and when it is needed in an efficient and economical way.

    With an underfloor heating system, the floor itself becomes the heat emitters, so heating the room is from the floor up. This is unlike conventional radiator systems in which the emitters are mounted on the wall and the room is, effectively, heated from the ceiling downwards.
