Climate change is affecting everyone, including the development and construction sectors. For example, severe flooding from Storm Babet in October 2023 caused roads and bridges to collapse. There was also a surge in subsidence claim payouts as a result of the record-breaking heatwave of summer 2022. Long-term changes in the climate, including the exacerbation of seasonal variations, also affect existing buildings and infrastructure during operation and maintenance.
RSK Geosciences has authored the recently published CIRIA report C824 Good practice guide for managing climate change and extreme weather in land development: effective management of geo-based risks. This is the first UK guidance on this subject and it will be useful to a wide audience including landowners, developers, consultants, regulators, financial institutions, asset managers and legal professionals.
The webinar will provide an overview of the guidance and discuss how the construction industry should assess and manage the geotechnical and geoenvironmental risks associated with a changing climate in land projects.
