Oil and Gas

Fossil fuel exploration, processing, transport and retail distribution is undergoing a rapid transition as we attempt to move to a low-carbon economy. Future scenarios suggest that while gas and oil are still needed as feedstock and heating, new fuels and more renewable sources of energy will become mainstream. Oil and gas facilities will need to be repurposed, redesigned and, in some cases, decommissioned to accommodate new fuels and market conditions.

Since RSK’s formation, it has been involved with all types of projects from upstream oil and gas, exploration to pipeline, processing, storage and retail projects. Our planning experts are experienced in gaining permissions for pipelines and associated facilities categorised as nationally significant infrastructure projects, and executing local planning consents and licences for on- and offshore projects. We are experts in conducting environmental impact assessments (EIAs). Whether a project is greenfield or brownfield, in the design stages or operational, we can help develop emergency responses and remediation strategies for contaminated land on refineries, exploration sites, pipelines or decommissioned land. Our environmental specialists have immense experience in undertaking site investigations, crafting landscape designs, clearing vegetation and, when a project is nearing decommissioning, we can help with waste strategies (including asbestos removal), material reuse master planning, and landscape designs for future site regeneration.

Harnessing Innovation

Our many years of experience means we can think differently to overcome problems and save our clients’ money. For example, using our drones for flare inspections in Iraq saved the client the cost of shutting down the flare and leaving it to cool. We are also primed to help our clients transition to a low-carbon economy by applying the latest techniques, project lifecycle analysis, ecosystem services, carbon reporting, carbon offsetting, natural capital and climate change risk assessment.

Listening, understanding and acting

Our clients include large international companies such as BP, Shell and Total, and smaller exploration and production companies. We help them all to gain consent for a project, maintain permits, improve efficiency, communicate better with stakeholders, keep staff and community safe, reduce fossil fuel usage and de-risk, including cleaning up historical contamination. We take an effective and flexible approach by providing multiservice capabilities to overcome any issues and use our well-informed relationship with regulators to great effect.

Enduring relationships

Our clients aim to maintain the highest health and safety standards on their projects and keep staff and communities safe. RSK has worldwide experience and award-winning companies across the group, making us the ideal partner to take a project forward or help with decommissioning. We are your trusted partner and will guide you through every step of your project.
