RSK Environment is the founding department of the RSK Group and has an established service offering across the United Kingdom, incorporating strong capability in environmental impact assessment (EIA), environmental consents, including the environmental elements of development consent orders (DCO) and developments of national significance (DNS) applications and sign-off, construction phase sustainability reporting and environmental management and geographic information systems (GIS). It supports clients in delivering major infrastructure and development projects throughout the design, planning consent and construction phases.

RSK Environment leads on multidisciplinary projects to support clients in all sectors, bringing in services from across the RSK Group as needed. It offers four primary services to clients:

Environmental impact assessment
The EIA team is Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment EIA Quality Mark accredited and provides professional, pragmatic and multifaceted support to clients across the UK and Ireland, primarily focusing on the pre-construction phase (optioneering and site selection, feasibility, design and consenting).

Environmental management, sustainability and consents
The environmental management, sustainability and consents (EM&S) team supports clients across the UK from the pre-construction detailed design stage through to on-site support during the construction stage. The team can manage and provide support in the sign-off of planning, DCO and DNS requirements, as well as developing and implementing practical strategies to manage complex environmental issues, manage compliance with environmental legislation and provide support with sustainability strategies and reporting. Environmental management plans it can prepare include those related to waste, surface water, noise and wider sustainability requirements.

Environmental permitting
RSK Environment has extensive experience with all elements of environmental permitting, including preparing and managing applications and variations to the Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Natural Resources Wales and local authorities. This includes applications ranging from bespoke installation permits (for heavy industry, manufacturing and energy sectors) and medium combustion plant permits to flood risk activity permits and water discharge permits.

Geographic information systems
The GIS team uses a project-based approach to deliver GIS services to RSK Group businesses and clients. Its services fall into four broad, but overlapping, categories: desktop GIS services, web-based system development, mobile mapping and GNSS/GPS surveying and 2D and 3D visualisation services.
