Hi-Line Training
Hi-Line Training, established in 2008 and based in Devon, UK, is one of the UK’s leading independent arboriculture and specialist first aid training providers, offering a wide range of high-quality courses, tutoring and assessments in specialist first aid and chainsaw-related topics to individuals and large and small organisations.
Hi-Line Training’s ground-based courses are designed for a range of individuals, from arborists and foresters to anyone who may be required to use chainsaws or other machinery such as in farming, conservation, domestic or ecology sectors. Courses can relate to battery or petrol chainsaw maintenance, cross cutting, tree felling, woodchippers and specific domestic use. They can also be tailored for differing learning styles and abilities, with an emphasis on practical, hands-on skills, set within a garden, woodland management or commercial forestry environment, dependent on the client’s needs, with Hi-Line Training instructors, most of whom are National Proficiency Tests Council (NPTC) assessors. For those with qualifications who require ground-based refresher training, multiple options are offered, including the City & Guilds NPTC continuing professional development (CPD) units. Refresher courses can be for either individual units or a combination of units.
In addition to providing industry-accredited qualifications, the company develops and delivers a selection of bespoke ground-based workshops, such as ground-based rigging, community orchard pruning sessions and community woodland skills days. On-site training is also an option.
Aerial and climbing courses, both industry recognised and recreational, are provided for both experienced arborists and those climbing a tree for the first time, including topics such as tree climbing and aerial rescue, chainsaw from a rope and harness, aerial tree rigging, aerial rescue refresher, an introduction to the single rope technique (SRT) and recreational tree climbing. For those with aerial-based arboricultural qualifications, advanced rigging workshops, TG1 update training, aerial rescue first aid, SRT workshops and aerial-based qualification refresher courses are available. Kit and equipment can be hired.
Utility arboriculture courses are aimed predominantly at those working, or looking to work, in the utility arboriculture sector. They are also suitable for people carrying out arboricultural or forestry work near live overhead power lines. Courses impart a broad skillset, including basic electrical knowledge, recognition of electrical components, specific distribution network operator work practice methods, tree species and tree decay recognition, use of insulated tools, assisted felling and climbing near electrical networks. Various refresher training options, including City & Guilds NPTC CPD units for individuals and organisations are offered, as well as training plans for both small and large contractors.
First aid and refresher courses are aimed at those in the arboriculture, forestry, landscaping, grounds maintenance or other land-based industries. Topics include catastrophic bleeds, tourniquet use, first aid kit content requirements, crush injuries and remote emergency care. Courses can be for individual and group bookings and can be delivered at a suitable client location.
Some of Hi-Line Training’s clients include Chapel Tree Services and HighGround.
