CJ Associates
Bristol-based CJ Associates, formed in 1974, uses the latest soil sampling equipment and techniques available to recover high quality soil samples all over the UK. The business has an extensive offering of ground investigation services and works for high profile clients in both the public and private sectors.
Helping to deliver some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects, the company’s services include rotary coring to sample soft material using standard window sampling techniques. The business operates a range of drilling rigs offering a wide range of capabilities.
Cable percussive boring services are available for cost-effective borehole and well development, using any of the company’s 15 rigs, with samples sent to laboratories that can store them for between three and six months.
CJ Associates can provide a comprehensive window sampling and dynamic probing service using Competitor and Terrier rigs, taking continuous undisturbed samples to a depth of 10 m or carrying out standard penetration testing or probing for obstructions down to a depth of 20 m. Standard penetration tests meet the BS 1377 standard and undisturbed sampling is undertaken to meet BS 5930. The company’s rigs are capable of coring through concrete and casing holes and working within buildings.
CJ Associates’ in-house team can provide geotechnical and geoenvironmental services, with comprehensive reports incorporating the latest developments and studies into the mechanics and remediation of soils. From desk studies to laboratory testing, CJ Associates will manage the operation to its conclusion, including undertaking site visits.
The business is home to the first UKAS-accredited laboratory in the West Country, where soil samples are logged and tests are undertaken to BS 1377 standards.
Pollution prevention and control (PPC) baseline surveys can be undertaken, with surveys designed to conform to the Environment Agency’s specifications. The company is an environmental auditor for several substantial government organisations, as well as numerous chemical companies. A sampling strategy is produced based on a study of the land and its historical use. Subsequent sampling and testing will inform the strategy for remediation.
CJ Associates is able to provide environmental searches using advanced OS mapping and can produce high quality site-centred digitised maps dating back to the 19th century. This service is particularly useful for companies who may be in negotiations for land or those contemplating the start of projects.
The company’s clients include Bristol City Council, Wessex Water, Balfour Beatty and Arup.
