Based in West Yorkshire, UK, Centara, established in 2009, is a business that provides surveying and engineering services to the rail, engineering, construction, utilities and electricity transmission and distribution sectors. It delivers high-quality, responsive and cost-effective surveying, mapping and management solutions nationwide. Centara’s electrical engineering, geomatics and service mapping divisions are staffed by over 60 professionals with extensive practical experience.

Centara provides a market-leading utility asset records search service to obtain information relating to required C2s, stat packs or safe-dig packs. It is also able to canvass asset owners in an area of interest (AOI), which may include many utility asset owners. Utility mapping surveys are also offered to BSI PAS 128 standard.

Its experienced drawing services team has more than 60 years’ experience working with distribution network and system operators and private network operators. It is able to deliver a complete range of services for secondary design, primary and civil schemes. These include, but are not limited to, 2D and 3D drafting services, site layout drawings, vehicle access and overhead line clearance drawings, fire risk and site safety file drawings and as-laid cable routes.

Centara uses camera systems and software to conduct CCTV drainage inspections. Its drain inspection system relays images and/or video to a mobile unit, where a technician can assess the structural condition and integrity of a drain or sewer. Using this non-invasive method ensures minimal disruption to properties and the environment.

The company can provide front-end engineering design services, carry out initial on-site surveys to capture required design criteria and establish drafting requirements for the required project scheme. It supports and delivers scheme circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams and associated drawings, including cable diagrams and core-sheet information, as well as an associated interface design service creating construction drawing packs, such as for site delivery. Drawings can also be printed for the project with an associated document control facility, including all as-built drawing management support.

Centara offers ground-penetrating radar (GPR), which can be used in various applications such as concrete imaging inspection, locating sinkholes, voids, underground tanks and drums, landfill sites, geology and geological hazards and leakages and archaeological studies.

Measured building plans can also be provided, such as floor plans or as-built plans via CAD drawings with varying levels of detail, including simple walls, columns, doors and window surveys to full-spec data sets, including 3D information. In addition, property surveys can be undertaken for sale and lease properties and estate and facilities management services.

Setting out engineers and surveyors are available within site engineering services for both single plots for self-builds to multiple plots on behalf of volume housing developers or major infrastructure and construction projects. Working to RICS standards, Centara provides engineering surveys throughout construction projects, including setting, monitoring and measuring lines and levels for all elements and stages of the construction process.

Topographical and bathymetric surveys are offered to provide precise representation of the natural and built environments. Topographical survey CAD drawings provide clients with a current and accurate plan to assist in all stages of a project’s life.

Centara works to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 SSIP standards and holds UVDB Verify, Constructionline Gold, RISQS and CHAS accreditations. It is also a member of The Survey Association and the European GPR Association and is licensed to operate GPR systems.

Centara’s key clients include Mace, Fugro, Balfour Beatty, WSP, National Grid, Network Rail, AmcoGiffen, QTS and Siemens.
