Aurora Health Physics Services
Aurora Health Physics Services Limited is based in Didcot, Oxfordshire, currently employs 20 staff and is the UK’s leading independent specialist radiation protection company, providing consultancy advice and radiation protection services for users of ionising and non-ionising radiations. Work is primarily carried out in, but is not restricted to, the UK.
The company employs more qualified radiation protection professionals than any other UK radiation consultancy business and has an established team of accredited Radiation Protection Advisers (RPA) and Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWA) – recognised legal appointments by the UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Environment Agency. Six staff are Fellows of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP).
The company’s key aim is to ensure that clients can work with ionising and/or non-ionising radiations safely and in demonstrable compliance with legal requirements.
The company has a broad range of expertise and provides services to clients operating across all sectors with ionising and non-ionising radiation applications in the nuclear, industrial, healthcare, educational, environmental, military and oil and gas sectors. Ionising radiation services include RPA and RWA appointment and compliance advice, radiation/contamination measurement and assessment, site surveys, radiation mapping, facility design and testing, land and facility characterisation and remediation.
Non-ionising services include on-site exposure measurements and human health hazard assessments, along with detailed advice on restriction of exposure to non-ionising radiations, namely electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency waves, lasers and broadband (visible, infrared and ultraviolet) optical sources. Advice is focused on practical application of control measures and achieving compliance with applicable legislation intended to minimise exposure and protect workers.
The company also offers a range of scheduled radiation protection training courses, both face-to-face and online, and provides bespoke in-person training courses and expert webinars. A 24/7 emergency advice and incident response service is offered to clients and ensures that any radiation emergency accident or incident is quickly addressed.
The company has grown since its formation in 2001 to become a respected industry leader and has RPA Body Status with the UK HSE. Aurora is highly visible within the UK radiation protection community, is trusted by regulators and is recognised as being at the forefront of the industry in terms of expertise and advice.
