Providing traffic management for city improvements
Peterborough is a city in Cambridgeshire, with a complex road network. Skanska, a leading development and production group, has been working with Peterborough highways services and Peterborough city council to improve the city’s highways network. This includes the maintenance of 550 miles of carriageway, 366 structures and 718 miles of footway. Tbf traffic, an RSK company, provided traffic management services for a section of work on gresley way, a busy road in the city centre, allowing work to be completed safely with the least possible interruption to traffic.
The three-month scheme involved designing and implementing a 24-hour-a-day road closure (north and southbound), three-way traffic lights to incorporate a secondary road, and bespoke signage. Regular inspections were conducted by full-time highly trained operatives to ensure measures in place were effective. Successful traffic management allowed skanska to implement a toucan crossing and improve the area around the bus stop contributing to a larger plan to improve the city’s roads.
