Launching the Carbon Action Yorkshire brand
Regional UK development agency Yorkshire Forward wanted to encourage organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber region to embrace the transition towards a low-carbon economy. The first step was to secure the commitment of the region’s top 100 companies to the initiative, and then broaden the scope of the scheme to engage with a greater proportion of the regional economy.
To achieve this, Yorkshire Forward set up Carbon Action Yorkshire, a body dedicated to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the region. RSK was commissioned to produce a communications strategy, design a brand and produce supporting materials, including a website, leaflets and an exhibition stand, for the new programme.
RSK is known for its in-depth understanding of the business practices involved in the management, environmental, energy, scientific and technical industries. Our communication services team can facilitate hard-hitting, yet attractive, branding for anything from a single initiative or programme, right up to a full-scale communication strategy for a large corporation. For this project, the team worked closely with the client and utilised their skills to design a brand reflecting the aims and principles of the initiative.
Three simple words were used to sum up what the programme was about: “Commitment, action, opportunity.” Commitment referred to getting businesses to commit; action to meeting reduction commitments; and opportunity to utilising growth in low-carbon markets.
The organisation launched its new brand, supported by RSK, at the HRH The Prince of Wales’s May Day Summit. Following this, there was a programme of activity to communicate the benefits of signing up to be a leader in the region’s low-carbon economy. RSK also supported the organisation when it sponsored the Low Carbon Best Practice Exchange 2008 in Harrogate, UK. This event aimed to share best practices, foster professional networks and develop actionable ideas to reduce organisational greenhouse gas emissions.
