Improving campus life for university students and staff
The University of Hertfordshire has more than 25,000 students and is one of the county’s largest employers with almost 3000 staff. To improve the learning and work experience of the students and staff, the university sought to maximise the potential of its existing assets. RSK worked with the university to provide building surveying and project management services and supported its estate management and capital works programmes.
RSK programmed the phasing of works for campus toilets refurbishment to ensure the work was completed with minimum disruption to the staff and students. A mezzanine floor was installed in the laboratory workshop to provide more teaching space, which involved altering and extending the existing lighting and small power installations. To improve disability access, a new lift was installed. On the De Havilland campus, we improved the fire protection of “The Street”, a covered walkway connecting primary campus buildings, including installing automated rotating doors, fire beam installations and alarm systems.
