Fast-acting and expert COVID-19 decontamination response

Before Wasps Rugby resumed its 2019/2020 Premiership Rugby campaign at home in Coventry, UK, the club hired RSK for a complete preventive decontamination of the Ricoh Arena. Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, RSK has established a reliable and fast-acting decontamination team, RSK Response. Working in tandem with officials from the Ricoh Arena, our specialist team deep-cleaned all the major points in the stadium and grounds, including the changing rooms, the in-house gym and its equipment, the media centre and control room, the dugout, commentators’ and general seating areas, the toilets and the staff offices.

Throughout the project, the RSK specialists wore face masks, Tyvek suits, gloves and safety glasses, and were fitted with battery-powered backpacks that dispensed a coronavirus protective spray. The application method enabled coverage of large surface areas and ensured that every touch point and surface was protected, including handrails, light switches, door handles, lockers, hygiene facilities and electrical equipment. The RSK Response team is highly trained in these methods and all members hold Construction Skills Certification Scheme cards. A four-person team completed disinfection of all the stadium and its facilities.

On project completion, we populated a site record using our specially designed app, which automatically delivered a site report to the client showing the protected areas, the volume of products used and the time spent on-site, and providing photographic evidence for each area decontaminated. A completion certificate was also issued to Wasps Rugby for it to display throughout the stadium to inform and reassure staff, players and visitors that the utmost has been done to protect their health and safety. The collaboration with the Wasps Rugby management team was part of a series of measures implemented to ensure the team could resume the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership campaign in August, which started with a commanding 32–17 win over Worcester Warriors.
