    3D interactive graphics and pdfs

    Shell Lubricants supplies high-quality oils and greases to companies around the globe whose operations range from Arctic mining operations to tropical plantations. The company wanted to help its sales teams to recommend the right products and encourage up- and cross-selling across its industry sectors. Its challenge was to provide technical information on thousands of products for a diverse range of equipment and components, so needed sales tools that would guide the users quickly from machines to lubricated components to product recommendations.

    Working closely with the team at Shell Lubricants, RSK’s experienced communication services team decided that interactivity was the key to meeting the challenge. Our graphics experts created eye-catching 3D models for interactive PDFs (iPDF). Rolling the cursor over or touching parts of an excavator in the construction industry iPDF brings up detailed illustrations of its lubricated components. Selecting one of these components, for instance, the swing bearing, takes the user to the relevant entry-, main- and premium-level lubricant products and their associated technical data sheets, thereby showing all the relevant information in an interactive, engaging format and helping clients to find the product best suited to their needs.

    The advantage of using 3D models instead of photographs or 2D illustrations is that they are easily altered to suit the requirement and the audience. For example, the colour, perspective and lighting can be changed for the best display of the information. These digital assets are then available for a wide range of other uses, including animations.

    Clearly, the final product met with client approval, as RSK’s communication services team has since created high-quality iPDFs for nine Shell Lubricants industry sectors, including agriculture, construction and power, and seven comprehensive suites of supporting sales materials. Each of these involved producing cross-selling guides and various brochures and folders, and compiling sales presentations.
