Somewhere over the rainbow: RSK supports Blue Skies Appeal

January 12, 2021

RSK has supported the Countess of Chester Hospital’s rainbow initiative: a project to build a large iron structure in the shape of a rainbow at the front of the hospital. The display, constructed in partnership with The British Ironwork Centre, will commemorate and remember 2020 and all those who played a part in taking care of others throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Sponsored by Medicash, donations towards the project will be put to the hospital’s Blue Skies Balcony appeal, a £500k project to build a balcony for its Intensive Care Unit. The hospital is local to RSK’s headquarters in Helsby, Cheshire and a vital part of the local community.

The rainbow will be split into seven colours and it is the green stripe that RSK has chosen to sponsor: representative of RSK’s green credentials and also in line with the environmental consultancy’s branding.

“We are delighted to be a part of the Countess’s rainbow initiative,” comments RSK’s Chief Executive Officer Alan Ryder. “Employees at the Countess have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to protect our community and for that we are very grateful. We have all been affected, and continue to be affected, by coronavirus in some way, but it is this coming together of communities that will get us through these challenging times.”

Lesley Woodhead, head of fundraising, said: “We have all loved seeing the rainbows on display in windows, on roundabouts and on t-shirts so we thought it would be a great fundraising idea to create something that will last.

“Each heart comes with its own story. A huge thank you to everyone that has bought a heart already. I encourage everyone that wants to buy one to do so to help us get the rainbow built.” The 8ft rainbow will be completed in Summer 2021 and act as a symbol of hope.

Companies and individuals can get involved by sponsoring one or more hearts in any of the seven colours. The charity is asking for a minimum donation of £10 per heart and will send you a favour to keep in your purse or pocket for the colour you choose. You can purchase a heart by visiting the rainbow Just Giving page.
