This year, the Weaver Words Festival in Frodsham will be back in person with the support of RSK. Having been cancelled on two occasions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival is back this year from 1–5 September. Hosting a range of events across the town, this year’s festival will include workshops, conversations with journalists, broadcasters and authors and writing competitions for all ages. The biennial literary festival held in Frodsham, Cheshire, UK, is sponsored by RSK this year.
Originally booked for May 2020, the Weaver Words Festival was prevented from taking place as planned by the pandemic. However, organisers have successfully rearranged the festival, which will now go ahead during the first week in September, kicking off with a workshop, a talk and a poetry reading by award-winning poet Michael Symmons Roberts on the first day of events. The biennial festival showcases the creative work of leading writers, poets and journalists, who will also conduct seminar and workshop events for visitors. The theme for the festival this year is ‘Edgelands’, reflecting “those awkward, dysfunctional places, both actual and virtual” of the present moment and the challenges of the pandemic, environmental change and global warming. Other notable guests at this year’s festival include Mark Radcliffe, BBC radio presenter, comedian Mitch Benn and Kerry Daynes, forensic psychologist.
The festival will be holding the Flash Fiction competition: a 300-word-story writing competition, and has already awarded the Great Weaver Words children’s writing prize. The winners of the Flash Fiction competition will be announced on the last day of the festival, which will include an evening with poet Andrew Rudd and violinist Daniel Axworthy.
The festival is taking place just down the road from RSK’s head office and the company’s sponsorship is a fantastic opportunity to invest in the local community.
