RSK supports Cardiff Rugby tribute to Sir Gareth Edwards at Cardiff Arms Park
Cardiff Rugby has honoured one of the sport’s greatest players by renaming the north stand at Cardiff Arms Park the Sir Gareth Edwards Stand, sponsored by RSK Group, as part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
The stand was renamed as Cardiff Rugby continues its sesquicentennial season, which is celebrating the club’s history and heritage.
Cardiff Rugby 150th anniversary tribute
Sir Gareth represented Wales, the British & Irish Lions and the Barbarians during an illustrious career. A one-club player at domestic level, he made 195 appearances and scored 67 tries for Cardiff across 12 seasons.
The ceremony also included the unveiling of a portrait of Sir Gareth by acclaimed artist Nicholas J Smith. Sir Gareth officially opened a new exhibition celebrating the history of Cardiff Rugby, before the launch of the book Cardiff Rugby Club 1876–2026, 150 Years.
Celebrating Sir Gareth Edwards’ Cardiff Rugby legacy
Cardiff Rugby Managing Director Jamie Muir said: “We have been talking about renaming the north stand for some time and it made perfect sense to do so in our sesquicentennial season. We are very grateful to RSK for supporting us with this project.
“To have Sir Gareth and his good friend, the late Peter Thomas, opposite each other in our stands and next to each other in the trophy room is incredibly poignant.
“This is a brilliant way to continue the celebrations of our 150th season and recognise the contribution and legacy of one of our greatest players.
“Sir Gareth is an inspiration to everyone at Cardiff Rugby and remains a regular at the Arms Park. He is a true gentleman and someone we all look up to as an example of what it means to represent this great club on and off the pitch.”
RSK partnership with Cardiff Rugby
RSK has been a long-standing supporter of Cardiff Rugby, initially through Cardiff-based environmental services company MSS Group.
The RSK Group logo has appeared on the front of Cardiff Rugby kits since RSK became principal partner in 2023. RSK has also played a key role in supporting the club’s sustainability ambitions.
Cardiff Rugby has worked with RSK and group business Nature Positive on a new sustainability strategy, “Forward Cardiff: From Pitch to Planet”, which aims to help protect the club’s next 150 years.
Sir Gareth Edwards’ passion for the environment reflects RSK values
RSK Director of Sport and Leisure Wayne Mumford said: “It is an honour and a privilege for RSK to support the renaming of the stand at Cardiff Arms Park.
“Gareth is one of the greats of the game. He is also passionate about the environment and his values align closely with our own.
“Honouring such an iconic player at his home ground alongside the RSK brand is a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved.
“We are proud to sponsor Cardiff Rugby as principal partner and wish the club every success during its sesquicentennial season. We look forward to continuing our support for future generations.”
