RSK has joined forces with Charlton Athletic again this year to put a spotlight on sustainability in football.

The group is proud to continue its partnership with Charlton Athletic by supporting the club’s upcoming Greener Game fixture against Norwich City on Saturday, 21 March, helping to inspire fans to travel more sustainably to matches and reduce their environmental impact.

RSK Sports and Leisure Director Wayne Mumford said: β€œAs Charlton’s official sustainability partner and front of shirt sponsor, RSK has been working closely with the club to embed environmental thinking into operations and fan engagement. The Greener Game initiative for this year builds on that shared commitment to highlighting how supporters could travel to games more sustainably.”

Encouraging greener travel for football fans

Wayne added that travel is one of the most significant contributors to the carbon footprint of sporting events. Through the Greener Game campaign, Charlton and RSK are encouraging supporters to consider lower carbon ways of getting to The Valley, whether that’s walking, cycling, using public transport or car sharing.

To better understand supporter behaviour and identify further opportunities for improvement, Charlton has launched a fan travel survey in the lead up to the fixture. Insights from this will help shape future initiatives and partnerships with transport providers, making greener travel more accessible and convenient for fans.

CAFC vision to ensure long-term sustainability

The club’s Chief Financial and Operations Officer Ed Warrick said: β€œAt the very heart of Charlton Athletic is community, and a key part of the board’s vision is to ensure the club is sustainable for the long-term benefit of this wonderful community.

β€œAt Saturday’s match, we will welcome 1400 children and families from our Schools Partnership, alongside many members of our esteemed academy, as we celebrate both the academy and Valley Gold. With so many talented young people in attendance, it serves as a powerful reminder of why the work we are doing, as a football club and as individuals, is so important.”

Building on a strong sustainability partnership

RSK’s collaboration with Charlton Athletic began in 2022 and has grown into a wide-ranging partnership focused on delivering practical environmental solutions across the club.

Together, RSK and Charlton have:

  • supported the club’s journey towards EFL Green Club status
  • delivered sustainability workshops for players and staff
  • promoted fan engagement initiatives such as Greener Games
  • contributed to projects including renewable energy and environmental strategy.

This work reflects a shared ambition: to use the power of football to drive positive environmental change both within the club and across its wider community.

Making matchdays a platform for change

The Greener Game against Norwich City is an opportunity to bring fans, players and partners together around a common goal.

Activities around the match will celebrate sustainable choices and showcase how supporters can play their part. From organised walking initiatives to awareness campaigns and fan engagement activities, the day is designed to make sustainability visible, practical and achievable.

Driving long-term environmental impact in football

Wayne added: β€œRSK believes that meaningful progress on sustainability comes from collaboration and action. By working with Charlton Athletic and its supporters, the partnership is helping to demonstrate how sport can play a leading role in tackling environmental challenges.”
