The feedback is in and RSK Safety Fortnight 2021 was officially our most successful yet! It was held from 8 to 19 November and was made up of a number of events on the theme of “Avoiding work-related ill health”. This year, each business unit held its own Safety Day, including presentations and exercises on two topics: a module for all employees that covered some common elements of occupational health and a second from a choice of eight options relating to wider health and safety themes, including such topics as homeworker health and safety, the control of noise, the management of biological agents and the management of work-related stress.
At RSK, our people work in places from the subsurface to high rise developments the world over, so ensuring high standards in the health and safety of our colleagues, clients and communities is critical to our business performance. We all share the responsibility to make health and safety a daily priority and maintaining our commitment to health and safety is one of RSK’s nine guiding business principles. But the annual Safety Fortnight event provides a dedicated focus on safety awareness and performance, which is especially important as we continue to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now in its fifth year, the event is organised by the RSK Safety Council, which is tasked with reducing the number of health and safety incidents and stimulating improvements in our safety arrangements, behaviour and organisational culture. After this year’s event, Ross Chattaway, Group SHEQ Director, commented, “We are thrilled to have hosted our most successful Safety Fortnight yet in 2021, with over 6400 participants – which is an impressive 86% of RSK’s employees. We are making a real impact on our health and safety performance and awareness across the RSK family of businesses.”
To round up Safety Fortnight 2021, RSK also launched its new Safety Poster Competition, which asked children and relatives of RSK employees, their friends and the wider community to get creative and share what staying safe and healthy meant to them. You can see the amazing winning entries in each of the age categories below – congratulations to all the winners!
Since it was launched, RSK Safety Fortnight has engaged more than 16,400 participants, and we are already looking forward to our next Safety Fortnight event, scheduled to be held throughout the month of January 2023.
