RSK backs new Olympic youth windsurfing scheme

July 29, 2022

An exciting new scheme that encourages young people with a keen interest in water sports to develop their skills is now up and running, and RSK, a global leader in the delivery of sustainable solutions, is backing it.

RSK is delighted to be sponsoring the RSK High Flyers programme, which aims to help young talent around the UK get a taste for ‘windfoiling’, the new Olympic windsurfing class that uses hydrofoil technology to ‘fly’ above the water at high speeds, even in low winds.

The scheme, a collaboration between RSK and the UK iQFOiL Class Association, got under way in June at West Kirby Marine Lake on the Wirral. Two girls and two boys were selected to take part in a weekend of introductory training from a top national coach after young people from all over the country applied to take part.

This scheme will continue throughout the summer and autumn, with equipment and coaches travelling to sailing clubs around the UK, thereby enabling even more promising young windsurfers to try this exciting new form of their sport.

At each event, the lucky four will be selected by the UKiQFOiL Class Association for their commitment to their sport and their local clubs, and each will be given the official junior version of the Paris 2024 Olympic equipment to try for the weekend, along with an RSK-branded ‘rash vest’ to keep.

As this is a new Olympic ‘one-design’ class, the equipment and coaches are highly sought after. While it is challenging to get as many young people as possible involved, particularly away from the sailing hub of the UK’s south coast, support from RSK is making the scheme, and the sport, much more accessible.

A spokesperson for the UKiQFOiL Class Association said, “We are very grateful for the generous support from RSK, which is a huge help in making this new form of our sport accessible to talented youth sailors around the UK. We will all be watching out for future British success in windfoiling.”

Jessica Sparkes, RSK’s Group Communications & Marketing Director, added, “RSK is extremely proud to support such an exciting opportunity for youth sport.

“We are really looking forward to seeing the progress these young windsurfers will make after taking part in this excellent programme.”

💧 Actively restoring rivers by reinstating natural river processes will play a vital role in helping offset the global freshwater biodiversity crisis.
