New RSK company appointed lead contractors on new solar farm project

February 07, 2022

Newly-acquired RSK business Optisol have been appointed lead civil contractors on a new technology and innovation park in Bedford, which will generate enough electricity for around 1000 average homes.

Solar farm cleaning, maintenance and civil works contractor Optisol, who joined RSK just weeks ago, are working on the project on behalf of their client Diamond Renewables, and work is already under way on site.

The new solar farm is being built on a former landfill site in Elstow, and when finished, will become home to more than 8,000 solar panels, that will generate and supply onsite buildings and local businesses with low carbon, clean energy.

Over 2,000 pile positions will be set out in support by another RSK company, Centara, who joined the business in late 2021.

Centara have been tasked in support of the project to ensure all positions are correctly set out in accordance with RICS standard to allow accurate positioning of the pile positions.

Sam Crane, Director of Optisol Services, said: “We are very proud to have been appointed by Diamond on this project, having completed our first similar size project with them last year andwe look forward to building on this partnership over the coming months.

“It is also great to be able to utilise another professional and highly skilled RSK company in Centara. Their vast experience in site setting out has helped ensure Optisol’s involvement on the project has kicked off to the best possible start and will enable all our other site works to be carried out as scheduled.

“Myself and the team are eager to begin the next phases of the project which will include piling, framework erection, panel installation and trenching.”

The project is due to be finished this spring.
