Will Barkley, of RSK company bts Group, is geared up to embark on a cycling adventure with friend Myles Spence. The pair have decided to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity.
Beginning on 6 July, the duo will cycle for seven days covering 700 kilometres and climbing three of the UK’s tallest mountains: Snowdon, Wales; Scafell Pike, England; and Ben Nevis, Scotland.
Originally meeting in 2010 but then losing touch, Will and Myles rekindled their friendship in 2017 when they both moved to Cambridgeshire for work.
“It reminded us that friendship is an important part of positive mental health, something that can be taken for granted,” said Will. “That’s when we started to think about planning an adventure and raising money for a brilliant cause while at it. We both enjoy mountaineering and cycling; so, we thought why not put the two together for an epic challenge? Although we haven’t struggled with mental health issues ourselves, we feel it’s an issue that needs further exposure and funding.”
Will explained his chosen charity, “Mind support more than 513,000 people across England and Wales with essential services ranging from supported housing, crisis helplines, and drop-in centres that councils and government simply don’t have the funds to support. It’s something that can affect anyone.”
