One of the UK’s leading independent research companies, ERS, is the latest business to join RSK, a global leader in the delivery of sustainable solutions.
Over the past 28 years ERS has established itself as a trusted and experienced economic development consultancy. With a team of 19, it has offices in Newcastle upon Tyne and Bristol but works across the UK. It is one of the few companies from this sector to have its quality assurance processes independently accredited to ISO 9001. Its annual turnover this year will top £1.1 million.
Its main area of work involves evaluating economic and social programmes for clients across the public and third sectors. These cover a broad range of themes, including culture, employment, enterprise, environment, heritage, innovation, regeneration, skills, sport and tourism.
Recent clients include Arts Council England, British Council, British Library, DEFRA, Groundwork, The Prince’s Trust, The Wildlife Trusts and UK Sport. As part of many of these evaluations or as standalone projects, ERS often undertakes economic impact assessments to determine the prospective or actual contributions of investments to local/regional economies, including in support of funding applications. Other work includes appraising funding bids, drafting economic development strategies and a wide range of other economic and social research.
ERS has completed more than 800 evaluations, relating to projects worth in excess of £4 billion. ERS has substantial experience of undertaking both formative and summative evaluations across a range of programmes. Its impact assessments have supported developments worth more than £3.5 billion and helped shape policy nationally and locally.
Managing Director Keith Burge, who will continue to lead the business, said: “ERS is founded on two core principles: Caring about what we do, how we do it and the people we do it for, and ensuring our team is proficient, happy and constantly improving. For more than 28 years, these principles have served us and this acquisition helps us to continue to grow and develop in line with this ethos. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with other companies within the Group and to expand our international work.”
RSK Group CEO Alan Ryder said: “ERS is a great business, with an impressive track record and an enviable client base. Their skills in the evaluation of economic and social development clearly sit very nicely alongside many existing parts of the Group. With RSK’s backing, ERS can expand, delivering a wider range of services to even more clients including those we work with internationally.”
As RSK continues to deliver its ambitious growth strategy it is now comprised of more than 175 companies, employing 10,000 people. The Group’s annual turnover at the end of FY22 is expected to be in excess of £800 million, more than double the previous year.
ERS was advised by Mincoffs (legal) and Joseph Miller & Co (accountants).
