July 20, 2021

RSK company CR Civil Engineering has been named in the BusinessLive 2021 East Midlands Top 500 Companies list. The civil engineering company features at number 484 in the comprehensive list of the biggest companies by revenue in Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, UK.

CR Civil Engineering, which joined the RSK group in March 2021, is headquartered in Loughborough and has sites in Llandeilo (South Wales), Rotherham (South Yorkshire) and Ripley (Derbyshire). It provides groundwork civil engineering services to the highways, rail and other sectors across the UK. CR Civil Engineering specialises in all aspects of construction: site clearance; drainage and ducting; earthworks; pavement construction, including surfacing, kerbing, footpaths and cycleways; rail contracts; airfield work; small residential and commercial developments; surfacing and planning contracts for local authorities; and other sundry groundwork. The business counts tier 1 contractors such as A-one+, Galliford Try, Morgan Sindall, BAM Nuttall, Amey, Osborne, Winvic and nmcn among its client base. CR Civil Engineering is known for its high-quality work: it employs more than 200 people directly and maintains a strong network of trusted contractors. The business prides itself as a local Midlands business but services the whole of the UK.

The list, now in its second year, is put together by Professor of Enterprise David Rae at De Montfort University in a partnership between research teams at the De Montfort, Derby and Nottingham Trent universities, East Midlands Chamber and Reach Plc. It uses publicly reported trading figures – many published pre-COVID.

“CR Civil Engineering is proud of its Midlands heritage, and as a small business, developed from a small team of four people and a transit van to a company with 220 employees, we are delighted to feature on the East Midlands Top 500 Companies list for the second year running,” said Carl Roberts, Managing Director, CR Civil Engineering. “To stand alongside big names such as Boots, Next and Toyota is a significant achievement.”

Chamber Chief Executive Scott Knowles said the East Midlands Top 500 showcased the huge contribution the region makes to ‘UK PLC’, and showed the strength and depth of its business community.

He said, “After a year and a half that has presented unprecedented challenges for businesses across a whole host of sectors, it’s vitally important to take stock and celebrate success.

“We’re lucky to have so many great businesses on our doorstep, packed with household brands and many others less well-known but who are titans of their industries.

“The East Midlands is the engine room of the UK’s economy – a manufacturing powerhouse, a hotbed of innovation, and a logistics hub that puts the region at the centre of Britain’s post-Brexit global trading relationships.”
