CANcentrating on wellbeing: CN Talent Awards

August 23, 2019

RSK company CAN has been shortlisted in the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year category at Construction News’ 2019 CN Talent Awards.

The awards, which will be presented in London on 20 November, recognise the people striving to make the construction industry more inclusive and the businesses doing outstanding work to improve its reputation and employment practices.

In its entry, CAN told judges that “CAN takes the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees and those which its activities impact extremely seriously. For this reason, it takes a holistic approach with numerous on-site and in-house initiatives in place; however, it is its wellbeing support that is genuinely innovative. Firstly, CAN has defined in its FY20 business plan its intention to become leaders in health and wellbeing management whilst striving to attain the highest possible level of employee satisfaction. In fact, safety, wellbeing of people, pride, innovation, integrity and collaboration are now etched into its core values and will drive its business plan.”

The RSK business goes on to detail some of the specific initiatives it has been involved in, including placing a trained team of mental health first aiders in each regional office, offering face-to-face counselling services, installing wellbeing notice boards in all offices and communicating information and techniques for recognising and helping with stress. CAN’s involvement in the RSK group-wide Pedometer Challenge is also mentioned, along with “smaller, ‘thoughtful’ initiatives, such as marking with cake/fruit the birthdays of staff and their CAN ‘start date’ birthdays”. CAN is also cultivating a garden/picnic area at its head office, with plants, a small greenhouse, picnic benches and space for staff to get outside and socialise during lunchtimes.

We wish CAN the best of luck at the awards ceremony on 20 November.
