CAN, RSK’s geotechnical engineering specialists, has designed and undertaken a programme of maintenance and additional slope and rock stabilisation work at the Waitrose distribution centre in Coulsdon, South London, UK. CAN’s successful campaign featured on Construction Update’s magazine website on 4 September.
“The project was awarded by Genco, the facilities management company for Waitrose, following CAN’s initial geotechnical inspection of the site and the geotechnical stabilisation work undertaken by a previous contractor, which recommended the maintenance and additional work including the design of the remedial measures,” the team told Construction Update.
CAN developed the specification and made the existing rock netting safe, while also stabilising other identified areas. Work included de-vegetation, rock scaling and clearing fallen rock debris from the existing rock netting system. Two rock face areas required additional netting and other stabilisation techniques to secure the rock features.
“CAN has always undertaken design work in-house but following its acquisition by RSK, it has developed a strong relationship with RSK’s geotechnical consultancy, which is now its design partner. The collaboration increases design capacity and the capability that CAN offers,” commented CAN’s Business Development Director Ben Foulger.
CAN’s geotechnical inspection began in late 2017. Specialists began working in May to June 2019. It completed its work programme on time.
