RSK expands New Zealand water, energy and infrastructure capability as BTW Company joins group
RSK has announced that BTW Company, a New Zealand multidisciplinary consultancy, has joined the group, supporting RSKβs strategy to expand its presence in New Zealand and strengthen its capability across the Asia Pacific region.
BTWβs expertise spans surveying, engineering, planning, environmental science and geospatial services. Its established presence in key water, infrastructure, energy and land development markets creates opportunities to combine BTWβs regional knowledge and digital capability with RSKβs global technical expertise.
Founded in 1973, BTW provides civil, structural and geotechnical engineering, surveying, planning and resource management, environmental science, geospatial, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), light detection and ranging (lidar), geographic information system (GIS) and building information modelling (BIM) services. The company operates from five North Island offices in New Plymouth, Hamilton, TaupΕ, Taumarunui and Raglan, and has a team of around 100 professionals delivering projects nationwide.
BTW works across land development, infrastructure, local government, MΔori land and assets, energy and renewables. Its integrated model is supported by ISO-certified quality and health and safety systems and ToitΕ« Envirocare Gold environmental certification. The business also uses advanced field technology and digital operations to support efficient, transparent and high-quality client and community outcomes.
A specialist area of strength is Wai-eye, BTWβs integrated three-waters asset assessment programme. Developed with councils and water suppliers, Wai-eye combines UAV, lidar, remote sensing, environmental science and monitoring capability to support asset insight and decision-making in line with New Zealandβs freshwater management framework.
Projects demonstrating the breadth of BTWβs work across renewable energy, MΔori-led development, infrastructure and local government include the following:
Te Rahui Solar Farm: Working with Nova Energy and Meridian Energy, BTW supported a 400 MW solar farm near TaupΕ from its early planning and consenting stages, demonstrating its renewable energy, planning and multidisciplinary project capability.
NgΔmotu Marae: BTW worked with NgΔti Te Whiti to provide planning and environmental advice for the development, including work to restore a sacred waterway and to create ecological habitat as part of a sustainable and culturally grounded design.
Tauriko hydrogen refuelling development: BTW supported Waitomo Group and Hiringa Energy with the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure at Tauriko, illustrating its role in emerging energy infrastructure and the transition to lower-emission transport.
Ruapehu infrastructure consultancy programme: Working with Ruapehu District Council, BTW provides multidisciplinary infrastructure consultancy services to the council, combining local delivery with engineering, planning, environmental and surveying expertise.
RSK Group Chief Executive Officer Alan Ryder said: βBTW is a highly respected New Zealand consultancy with strong technical capability, trusted client relationships and a culture that closely aligns with RSK. Its strengths in water, infrastructure, environmental science, surveying and digital delivery make it a strong strategic fit as we build our Asia Pacific platform and support clients facing increasingly complex environmental and infrastructure challenges.β
BTW Managing Director Grant Aitken, who will continue to lead the business, said: βJoining RSK gives BTW the scale, technical depth and international network to support the next stage of our growth while maintaining the local relationships, regional presence and values that have shaped the business for more than 50 years. Our clients will continue to work with the same trusted team, with access to a broader range of specialist expertise and delivery capacity.β

RSK Divisional and Board Director Steve Abbott said: βBTW gives RSK a stronger local presence in New Zealand, backed by deep regional knowledge and long-standing relationships across local government, infrastructure, land development and environmental markets. We see significant opportunity to support BTWβs continued growth while connecting clients to wider RSK capability where it adds value, particularly in water, digital asset insight and sustainable infrastructure delivery.β
