Satisfying a thirst for knowledge through RSK's graduate programme
Riccardo De Pantz has completed his first placement at RSK as a graduate, and as he prepares to begin his second, he’s reflected on his time with the group so far.
Having joined RSK Geosciences in 2023, Riccardo has worked as a graduate geoenvironmental consultant, shadowing colleagues on numerous projects, which has equipped him with the skills to manage one of his own.
Using his thirst for knowledge, Riccardo hopes to explore his passion for sustainability as his journey at RSK continues.
I certainly have mixed feelings as my time at RSK Geosciences ends. On one hand, I’m really excited to embark on my next placement and start a new chapter at RSK, yet it’s really difficult to leave a team I’ve gotten to know and feel part of. When I first joined the business, I knew that by the end of the placement I wanted to be confident and knowledgeable about every aspect of the job. Looking back, I feel that I’ve achieved everything I set out to.
One of the great things about the graduate programme at RSK is having the opportunity to work on-site. I have found it incredibly invaluable so far and learned so much about the process and how work is performed. I’ve shadowed colleagues and have gained a lot of confidence.
As time’s gone on, I’ve carried out groundwater and gas monitoring independently but, most importantly, I had the chance to manage my first project. On the whole, I found it to be a very formative experience. I am proud that I was given more responsibility and was able to follow every step of a project from a more active position.
My colleagues at Geosciences have been incredibly supportive, and I have learned so much thanks to them. I am hugely appreciative of all the feedback and guidance they’ve given me.
The second of my two placements will be completed at RSK Environment, and I can’t wait to get started and immerse myself in new projects and business areas. Having already spoken to my new line managers, I will potentially be involved in energy infrastructure projects. They also mentioned helping members of the ecology team carry out on-site surveys. Both sound incredibly interesting.
Throughout the rest of my time with RSK, I want to delve more into the sustainability elements of RSK projects, such as carbon emissions, renewable energy and biodiversity. There’s still a lot to learn, but I am off to a strong start and look forward to the months ahead.
