Tuesday 12 July, 12:30–13:15
Our 12 July Down to Earth webinar is all about PFAS – perfluoroalkyl substances, which are both human-made and known to be harmful to humans. For about seven decades, they have been used in industry and consumer products worldwide. You will find them in many household products and kitchenware, such as non-stick frying pans, and they keep the rain off in water-repellent clothing. They also help with removing stains from carpets and even fight fires with foam-based extinguishers. They are everywhere. So, what exactly are they? And, crucially, are they harmful to us?
This talk will be given by Dirk Van Look from RSK Benelux and Chris Hughes from RSK Geosciences. The webinar will attempt to answer all these questions and will provide more information concerning PFAS, termed the “forever chemicals”. We will also showcase real-life examples to demonstrate how RSK is responding and developing capabilities to assess these emerging contaminants.
