In this webinar Richard (Dez) Delahay, RSK Biocensus Director and Professor in wildlife biology at Exeter University will explore the role of scientific evidence in ecological consultancy.  Evidence-based conservation advocates the systematic application of empirical evidence to conservation management, but are we routinely achieving this in our profession?  And what are the implications if we are not?  During this 45-minute webinar, Richard will examine these questions, pulling together the findings of several recent studies and exploring why it is that the ecological consultancy profession has such a strained relationship with empirical evidence (spoiler alert – its not all our fault!).  He will discuss the nature of scientific evidence and where to find it, will describe ‘evidence complacency’ and ‘evidence transparency’, and (importantly) he will discuss what to do when there isn’t any evidence!
