RSK’s campaign addressing global energy transmission
We’re excited to unveil our latest campaign spotlighting one of the most critical challenges, and opportunities, of our time: global energy transmission.
As efforts to transition economies to renewable energy generation ramp up in response to climate change, they outpace the ability of existing grids to integrate and transport this power reliably. The global energy transition requires a much higher volume of electrical transmission capacity as an enabler. Recent analyses show that while global renewable capacity reached 3372 GW in 2023, grid adaptation has lagged significantly, resulting in congestion, reduced system inertia, voltage instability and an estimated ~5% renewable curtailment due to bottlenecks and insufficient transmission capacity.
Regional differences in the challenge of electrical energy transmission stem from variations in grid maturity, investment levels, renewable resource distribution, regulatory frameworks and demand growth. While the underlying issue is global, its expression varies significantly by geography.
