- Market sector investment within the United Kingdom in 2023 was £13.8 billion, a 3.9% increase compared with 2022 and an increase of £0.5 billion in 2021 constant prices.
- As of 31 March 2024, there were 15,107 railway vehicles registered in operation in the United Kingdom for all passenger train operators. Of these, 71% were electric, 19% were diesel, 7% were bi-mode and 3% were locomotive hauled. Ongoing developments indicate a trend towards modernising and expanding the fleet.
- In the United Kingdom, infrastructure investment is projected to be between £700 billion and £775 billion over the next decade, with £379 billion confirmed, of which £164 billion is scheduled to be spent by the end of 2024/25.
- Globally, infrastructure investment requirements are projected to reach £75 trillion by 2040, with an additional £2.8 trillion needed to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for universal access to electricity and water.
