  • The International Energy Agency’s (IEA) World Energy Investment 2024 report indicates that global investment in clean energy technologies is set to exceed USD 2 trillion (£1.6 trillion) annually, surpassing the combined amount spent on new oil, gas and coal supply.
  • As of 2024, developers in England are legally required to deliver a 10% biodiversity net gain, including for small sites.
  • Energy markets continue to face geopolitical risks amid conflicts in regions such as the Middle East and Ukraine.
  • In 2023, renewable energy sources, including wind, solar and hydropower, accounted for 30% of global electricity generation, setting a new record.
  • The Global Wind Energy Council’s (GWEC) Global Wind Report 2024 reveals that the global wind industry installed a record 117 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity in 2023, marking a 50% increase over 2022.
  • To align with the COP28 targets and maintain the 1.5°C global warming pathway, the wind industry must triple its annual growth, reaching at least 320 GW of new installations per year by 2030.
